Arrived in Auckland Finally......
We finally landed in Auckland on the 05th October after an overnight stay in LA, that turned out to be a good call as we were so tired from the 1st leg of our journey from Heathrow which was around 12 hrs total, got to stay at the Travellodge in LAX and was a warm day so made use of the pool. On the final leg of our journey had a good flight to Auckland and the kids slept most of the way so they were not too bad when they landed around 06:00am, my good friend Dazza Ingram who is a Sgt Avionics guy turned up to meet and greet and bus us over to our hotel in Takapuna which is out of this world 5* hotel and very spacious in standards. We had the weekend to get our body clocks in order and it wasn't long before we all started to visit the local areas checking out the car lots for a bargain, so it was off to our local car dealer Selcars in Takapuna to check his stock.
The Induction course set up by RNZAF is run smoothly with the first two weeks set up for the family members to get to know the area and local tax laws, finances, setting up base houses and making sure the kids are settled with the two nannies, we are now into our second week starting on Monday and all families have got most kids set up in school in Hobsonville Primary which has good facilities and they are starting on Tuesday. Most family members now have a choice of base housing and move in around the 20th October, NZVAN Lines have not released our house packs until the 29th October so we have a little while yet before we get settled. But all in all the transition has been easy and not too stressful for families, most shocks came the day they visited Base Housing on Hobsonville and they are miles apart from UK housing as they are weatherboard and not brick built. Lots to catch up on in the next few weeks, are uniform has been issued and lots of it and soon to get back into forces life which will seem strange for me being away for a few years now, but Im sure it will all come flooding back and will not take me too long to settle back into the lifestyle. Got my 3.2km run which should not be too much of a problem to do in 15.5 minutes, so will keep those updated with our induction weeks as we progress and don't forget to leave your comments.
