Ngunguru Holiday Lodge 2007

Well it was our first official Weekend away with our friends the Gregory family who arrived in NZ in March and have settled for a new life out here in the Waitakere, we decided to book a night away on the coast at Ngunguru which is not too far from Whangarei and we headed north which took us around 3 hours in total after a McD break. We had so much to do in such a short space of time and the kids couldn't resist taking out the small tinny boat in the garage to try out their seamanship skills, life here is so very different from the UK and you have to give it your all to really appreciate what is out there.
The girls had one trinket shop to look in which took all of 5 minutes to check out, and we settled for a fish and chip supper as Saturday night would end up with us all huddled outside our lodge with a few bottles of the very best Ngunguru could offer 4 bottles of wine Kiwi white cloud, we consumed and was a great night cap on a chilly east coast night with full moon.
Tracy couldn't resist getting up early to capture sun rise to capture the beauty of Ngunguru and did us all proud capturing a small clipper boat in the bay with the sun rise behind her shot, very good for an amateur from down South I must say....Rick wouldn't play skipper though on the base tinny with small outboard...doesn't do water was his remark, I had to make do going out for a quick recce with the kids just out and about the local inlet, but we all had a laugh and it proved I did need to take a skippers course to update my maritime skill sets just a little. Then before we knew it, we were packing ready to make our way back to the North Shore and a short visit to Whangarei water falls if time allowed.
So lots more to seek out and explore in the coming months as we go through winter and look forward to the summer and we move closer to more new arrivals in October and we can welcome our friends Dean, Ann, Polly, Lucy to NZ.
