Had to let Harley go to a new home....Sad Day...

Today was a bad day in many ways, first to have to leave your pet dog from 6 weeks old to a new home because of the job sucks big time. But I had no choice if I was to move family to a dream farm and move on from the RNZAF, to make this work we could not chance him worrying the herd of 850 with over 250 in calf at this time.
The risk is too great and there is the likelihood he would get out and wander as there is so much land to keep checking.

252 hectares is a huge land mass to keep a check with 5 staff and he has such a diverse temperament of late with only being 6 months old, so we made the decision to re-home him now and not have to take the worry with us to Dannevirke. He has had such ups and downs as we knew he would be he is still a baby for 6 months and typical Ridegeback, very very stubborn.

But the time we have had him he has been very much part of the family and has grown on my wife Sherren and became the Alpha Male and took to her commands and was a good dog. I shall miss him and know the SPCA will adopt him to a good home in time, the processes involved are good and know they go a long way to make sure he has a good life ahead of him.

Farming is a massive leap of faith for all of us and such a good opportunity at this time of uncertainty in our lives especially with the RNZAF and restrictions in place due to not being a citizen. So this is a great chance to see what else there is out there and try some other career within NZ and try to make a good go of Dairy Farming. Life is too short you have to make good of what your instincts tell you is best.
